Cheval de Jade

Our friend Nataliya assists the chef with the press
July 2018 Update
Cheval de Jade is now closed.  I don't have the heart to delete the post, so I will leave it below so you can read about the splendour that once was.  Frederique and Olivier, the husband and wife combo that created Cheval, cited a chronic lack of wait and support staff available in the area to keep the restaurant going at the level of quality they expect.  I read that they will stay in the area and try a catering business instead, something they can manage themselves.  All the best!

******************
I first heard of Cheval de Jade from my dentist...he and his family had taken a ski trip in Tremblant and it was the one restaurant he could remember, and now I understand why.  The Cheval de Jade has quickly become our favourite restaurant in the Tremblant area, and for several reasons:
  • The food is amazing.  I'm a bit of a foodie so I have high expectations of a fine-dining restaurant and the Cheval never disappoints.
  • The atmosphere is charming.  Situated in a bungalow house on the east side of St. Jovite, the restaurant is cosy in the winter and glorious for outdoor dining on the patio in the summer.
  • The staff are professional and friendly.  You won't get a warmer welcome anywhere...the hostess and her husband chef are from France are a delight.
  • If you reserve in advance, you can have the Rouennaise duck, which is a specialty, historic recipe and methodology for preparing duck using a press and traditional ingredients.  The chef at Cheval is one of just a few Master Canardiers in Canada.
  • They will remind you every time that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are regular customers.  (And they are)
If you're staying in the ski village by the mountain, it's worth the 15-minute drive (or taxi ride) to St. Jovite to experience this jewel.  Do make reservations as the restaurant is popular, althoguh we've never had a problem calling same day for a table.  For more info, visit their website.
